Adware and spyware has become the number one computer problem for internet users. Adware has also mutated into malware another form of adware because of it's viral and extremely hostile behavior. Along with the hazards of identity theft (one of the leading crimes online today) and the many scams on the Internet, adware and spyware can be a lot more than just annoying it can be devastating.

I have listed some methods to detect spyware and adware and remove or help avoid adware and spyware but to be totally protected your are best to have software, such as Spyware Doctorinstalled on your computer.

1. USE Mozilla Firefox. Especially if you are a heavy internet user , if not, then maybe you don't worry about such things but currently firefox has the best solution. Firefox is a browser that performs nicely and has excellent security protection from things such as adware.

2. Stay away from Microsoft Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has been compared to swiss cheese. There seems to be a never ending deluge of security holes that are contstantly being patched and re-patched. Microsoft is constantly updating patches to fix all the flaws in Internet Explorer 6.X and all other versions of there browser. Even though it can be "secured" by increasing its security level in tools–> options you give away to much of its functionality to be user friendly.

3. Use a software or hardware firewall not just the windows firewall. You might think this is too expensive but again maybe you have the tools already. Do you use a DSL or broadband modem that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) supplied on connection.Maybe your modem or DSL/Cable router has a firewall included with it, and all you need to do is configure it. Take a couple of minutes to read the manual it will be worth the time if it helps prevent adware intrusions.

4. Detect Spyware and Adware using free Anti-spyware, anti-adware software.
Lavasoft's Adware and Spybot Search & Destroy ( if you have Norton's installed you could have a conflict using this software Spybot) these programs are both excellent at restoring your system from adware for free.

The best approach if you wish to remain totally protected is to use all of the options ( Adware Spyware Removers, anti-virus and firewall ). Remaining aware and using a suitable browser and firewall is critical, but not enough, you need a good anti-adware/spyware application installed as well. If you are unfortunate enough to be attacked with a genuinely malicious adware or malware infection you will be glad that you had Spyware Doctorinstalled.
